What does a DNS leak mean for a proxy?
It means DNS lookups made while using the proxy are resolved by a different network than the one carrying your actual traffic -- so even though your browsing goes through the proxy, the hostnames you visit could still be visible to your ISP or another party. This checker forces remote DNS resolution through the proxy and compares the resolving network against the proxy's own exit location to detect this.
Why does UDP support matter for a proxy?
Some apps and protocols (VoIP, WebRTC, certain games and streaming tools) need UDP, not just TCP. Only SOCKS5 proxies can relay UDP via the UDP ASSOCIATE command -- HTTP proxies only tunnel TCP connections, so UDP-dependent traffic will not work through them regardless of configuration.
Which proxy types support UDP relay?
Only SOCKS5 proxies can support UDP, and only if the specific proxy server implements the UDP ASSOCIATE command from the SOCKS5 protocol -- not all SOCKS5 servers do. HTTP proxies never support UDP. This checker runs a real UDP ASSOCIATE handshake against SOCKS5 proxies to confirm rather than assume support.
